Shaw In Bloom: Shaw Main Streets' 2012 Gala

Shaw Main Streets' biennial gala will be held on April 18, 2012 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Long View Gallery (1234 9th St., NW). The catered evening promises to be a can’t-miss affair, with a jazz quartet, a live auction of exciting packages, issuance of three awards to people and organizations who have made significant contributions to the neighborhood’s trajectory, and several Shaw-centric flourishes.

Taking place during the National Cherry Blossom Festival, the gala will have a cherry blossom theme and will celebrate the many ways in which the Shaw neighborhood is in bloom. With its major construction projects, its rich history, its unique shops and restaurants, and its gleaming landmarks, the area is bursting with life, renewal, heritage, and diversity.

Gala chair Susan Linsky – a Project Manager with Roadside Development and Secretary of the Board of Directors of Shaw Main Streets – remarked “This fabulous event will be representative of Shaw and why it’s so special. Held in one of our area’s premiere art galleries, itself a historic and chic space, there will be something for all senses, there will be a mix of fantastic people, and a good time will be unavoidable.”

The gala benefits Shaw Main Streets, a commercial revitalization nonprofit established in 2003. Shaw Main Streets utilizes the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s proven Four Point Approach to revitalization. The organization’s success is accomplished through a multitude of services and projects throughout the neighborhood, ranging from providing training to business owners to cleaning up trash and graffiti, and promoting Shaw businesses. Shaw Main Streets has played a direct role in over 80 businesses opening in or relocating to the neighborhood, and we have helped existing businesses evolve to meet changing consumer tastes.

Tickets can be purchased for $75 at http://shawgala.eventbrite.com/.
